Asahi Net ADSL: What do I do when the communication speed is slow?

A
There are a lot of environmental causes regarding the communication speed. It is recommended that you review your environment as follows on a regular basis.

If you are using a long modular cable
Long modular cables tend to get interfered by noise. It is recommended to use a shorter modular cable.
* If you are using a long modular cable which is bundled with other cables, it also tends to get interfered by noise.
* If your modular connector and your PC are far away, try extending the LAN cable instead of your modular cable.

If you modular cable is split between your modular connector and modem
If you are using a splitter between your modular connector and modem, you may not be connected correctly or may have a problem using the phone.

If you have more than one modular connector
The situation may improve by using another modular connector. Try connecting just your modem to a different modular connector and see if the situation improves.

If home appliances are placed near your modular cable
Home appliances such as TV and microwave generate noise which deteriorates the ADSL signal. When wiring, try to keep away your device from such home appliances as much as possible.

If you have a security equipment
Since most security equipment uses a phone line, it may interrupt the ADSL connection. In such a case, a separate wiring work may be needed (including fire alarm, gas detector). Please check the gas company, security company, etc.

If you are living in an apartment/mansion
A least cost routing (LCR) adapter may be attached to your apartment’s mansion main distributing frame (MDF). Please check with the apartment management company or superintendent of your apartment. If this adapter if unnecessary, please check with the agent/superintendent if it can be removed.

Reboot your connection device
If the power of your connection device is on for a long term, its operation may slow down. Try turning off the power of the ADSL modem, router, hub, etc. and then turn it on again to see if the situation improves.
When turning off the router’s power, wait for about 15 minutes before turning it on again.

If you are using more than one computer
Try if the situation improves with your other computer. If the situation improves, it may be a computer-specific problem. Please consult the manufacturer of your computer.

If you are using an in-home LAN device (wireless or a power line communications (PLC))
Try if the situation improves by changing the wireless or PLC part to a wired cable. Also, please note that the speed may be slowed down depending on the specifications and route of the wireless device itself.
The frequency band of wireless LAN may be interfered with the frequency band of microwave and cordless phone. If you have such home appliances near or between your wireless LAN devices, try keeping away from them.
If you are using an old LAN device, the speed may be insufficient. Please check its specifications.

If you are using a resident software such as security software
The load of resident software may be causing the processing speed to slow down. Try halting the software temporarily, or uninstall it (if possible) to see if the situation improves.
* After checking, reset or reinstall your security software/service/plugin. Also, if you have any resident software other than your security software, try halting that too to reduce the load of your computer and see if the situation improves.
